Genesis 30:13 And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.
Blessedness is a happiness only God can give. Do you want to be blessed? (Have someone read the verses)
Psalm 1:1 ¶ Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Do you meditate on the law of the Lord day and night? Is His Law your delight? Do you really want to be blessed?
Do you want to have success in life? (ask someone).
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Is this Book always in your mouth and do you always meditate on it day and night? Do you really want success?
Do you want to not sin against God?
Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Do you have God’s word hid in your heart? Let’s hear some of it if you do? If not, do you really want victory over sin? I mean, really?
Do you want to fear God? Do you want to keep His statutes ? Do you want to not be uppity and think you are above everyone? Would you like a long, healthy life, you and your children?
Deuteronomy 17:18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: 20 That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.
Are you keeping a copy of the book with you? Are you reading it all the days of your life? As in every day? Oh, but I’m not a king, you say? Oh, but you are. Don’t call God a liar.
Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Do you really want those things? Come on, tell me the truth.
Do you want God’s approval? Would you like to not be ashamed and to be able to figure out what in the Bible is written to whom and about what? Do you want to know which things apply to you and how they apply and what you are supposed to do in response to what you read?
2Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Are you studying the Bible? Do you really want those things? I’m not talking about reading someone’s sermons ABOUT the Bible or someone’s commentaries. I mean, all that’s good. But are you studying and searching the Bible on your own?
Do you want to be strengthened by God? Do you want Him to make you strong?
Psalm 119:28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.
Do you want God to shower you with blessings and to make you alive when you feel like you’re sinking?
Psalm 119:17 GIMEL. Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.
Psalm119:25 DALETH. My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.
Do you want to be set apart for God’s purpose, to be useful to God?
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
How serious do you take God’s word? How important is it to you? Do you really want God to use you? Millions of people have died for you to have this Book. If you call yourself a Bible Believing Christian and you don’t read the Bible and study the Bible every day you are telling God that what He has done doesn’t matter to you. God has preserved His words for YOU! (I read these verses)
Psalm 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
It’s more serious than you imagine. You know this verse?
Isaiah 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
And this verse?
Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God
Now, what about this one?
Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Now, you do believe, don’t you, that Jesus Christ is a name of God? That Jesus Christ is God the Son, the very Word by which the universe and all that there is was created?
Okay, then, you’re a believer, and you’re saved. Now listen to this verse.
Psalm 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
…….for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
And you take it lightly? You claim to be a Christian but you don’t regard God’s very words important enough to read every day more than anything else you read? And you want God to bless you? You really expect that He is going to shower down blessings on you when you have taken something He holds in this high regard and treated it like an old newspaper or a mere textbook?
What’s wrong with you? Are you goofy? This Book is has been magnified by God above His name! Doesn’t that scare you the way you treat it?
Proverbs 13:13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
If you think that there is anything more important than your reading, studying, meditating on, and memorizing God’s word you line up all of the verses about that thing you think you should do that’s more important and then you line up all of the verses about the importance of God’s word and let’s talk about the differences. I think you’ll be surprised, if you’re honest.
What do you know about how you’re supposed to be as a Christian outside of this word that is more sure than this word?
Psalm 119:89 LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
Don’t tell me, you think you’ve got some special gift. That’s not certain.
Proverbs 25:14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
Only the Bible is certain.
You think you might be a prophet? Do you really think that’s slam dunk?
Hosea 9:7 The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.
Only the Bible is certain.
Do you think you can just trust any man with Ph.D. in Theology after his name? I mean if Dr. Whosit comes on the radio and tells you this or that, do you feel confident about what he says? Now you know the story about the young man of God whom the Lord sent to Bethel in 1 Kings 13 who was told not to eat or drink anything before he returned home?
1 Kings 13:11 ¶ Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father. 12 And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah. 13 And he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. So they saddled him the ass: and he rode thereon, 14 And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am. 15 Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread. 16 And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place: 17 For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest. 18 He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.
God lets you know that they can lie, they can deceive you. Some of the good guys aren’t even true to God’s word.
2Corinthians 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
The famous “Sword of the Lord”, March 30, 1979, reportedly has this quote by Dr. John R. Rice, one of our heroes of the faith.
“The doctrine of infallibility of the translation in the King James is not a Bible doctrine; it is a manmade scheme by some partly ignorant and some partly influenced by bad motives.”
Here’s our Constitution on that matter.
Okay, so even the best of us have a human side, a fleshy side. This is the same man who supposedly said, at Bob Jones University in 1965, that if your personal worker wasn’t using a King James Bible you aren’t saved.
What can we be sure of? What do we have to stand on, in the flesh, a foundation on which to rest with confidence other than the words of the living God?
Psalms 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
Psalm 119:89 LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
If you want God to bless you then trust this Book, read this Book, study this Book, memorize this Book, honour this Book, and let no man, no matter what his credentials, take this Book away from you.
This Book that we have in our hands is God’s word, even His very words. What will you do with it? Will you permit God to change your life with it? Will you?
What do you want from the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ? Let Him give it to you. Read His Book. Fill your mind with His very words.
