1 ¶ And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon: of shittim wood shalt thou make it.
This is a different altar than previously discussed.
2 A cubit shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof; foursquare shall it be: and two cubits shall be the height thereof: the horns thereof shall be of the same.
3 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns thereof; and thou shalt make unto it a crown of gold round about.
This has a crown of gold representing God the Father. The one outside was a brazen altar.
4 And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under the crown of it, by the two corners thereof, upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it; and they shall be for places for the staves to bear it withal.
5 And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.
6 And thou shalt put it before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee.
It is inside. Consider this.
Hebrews 9:2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. 3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; 4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
By taking the golden censer in there, something is transferable. That thing is prayer. When you pray you go inside the veil and meet with God.
7 And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it.
8 And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
9 Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering; neither shall ye pour drink offering thereon.
This altar is inside the tabernacle. This is an altar of prayer and there will be no prayer until a lamb has been sacrificed and it will not be accepted until the lamb is sacrificed. It can’t be accepted until there is an intercessor.
Revelation 8:4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
Psalm 141:2 Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
The bread, mentioned previously, is the word of God, and the light is the Holy Spirit illuminating the word.
The Lord God will only accept genuine prayer. How many times have we just thrown in, “In Jesus name”, or some other mantra and not had our prayer answered. The source of the incense, the prayer, has to be right, to be genuine. If you are wallowing in unconfessed sin your prayers will not be answered positively.
Fake prayers would also be any prayers made to someone or something other than God the Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit. I’m not saying that is a specific formula you must use but what compels you to pray must be the Lord God and not Ishtar (the Virgin Mary) or some other idolatrous god or goddess. If your prayers are not going through Calvary your prayers are probably of the flesh. Real praying is Gethsemane.
Are your prayers, strange incense? Who is your God? Is it you? Are you the one whom you serve continually? Are you running errands for a corpse?
10 And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the LORD.
11 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
12 When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when thou numberest them.
The ransom is to the Lord, not Satan as modernists claimed. Apparently they can’t read.
Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes
Matthew 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Mark 10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
1Timothy 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Here, there is a calling to number the people for a specific purpose for God. David numbers the people later for his own purpose and receives a painful and bloody rebuke. Numbering gives a king or chief executive pride and a sense of power, as if by sheer numbers he can overcome an enemy. This is not what God wants. He wants the king to depend upon him for victory and not to be quick to war.
13 This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD.
14 Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.
Twenty years old is the age of adulthood according to God. Our country uses eighteen as old enough to get shot and to vote. From eighteen on up our young people are usable as cannon fodder to accomplish some wicked goal of a politician with a messiah complex. They are also free to vote in an election in which the outcome has already been decided by powers that be.
15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
This is a flat tax, in type. It costs the same to save a rich man as it does to save a poor man anyway. The same sacrifice is necessary. Why should one pay more in this than another?
16 And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
17 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
18 Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash withal: and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar, and thou shalt put water therein.
19 For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:
Aaron is a type of Christ, again, and his sons are a type of the Christian. Notice that there are no measurements given. This is a picture of something eternal, after the sacrifices. Jesus says;
John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Psalm 119:9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
The brazen laver with no measurements listed is a picture of the eternal word of God. This Book is eternal. You need this Book to get washed after your salvation. I have read numerous histories that emphasize the importance of preaching to those already born again to prepare their hearts to be used by God. This is pretty weak. Those who are saved need to permit God to change them and to cleanse them with His own words. If you only get fed when you come to church and aren’t engaged in Bible Study, memorization, and daily reading of the Bible then you are spitting in God’s face for all of the effort He has done to preserve HIS VERY WORDS for you to be changed by. There is one verse used in Hebrews by Pastors to emphasize the importance of church attendance and the dozens of verses that emphasize the word of God are often ignored. You will get more out of immersing yourself in God’s word every single day than you will by hearing preaching three times or one time per week.
20 When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:
1Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
John 13:10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.
The bottom of the laver was made of the women’s mirrors. The word of God is a mirror by which our wickedness and the goodness of Christ are reflected, our sarcasm and disregard for Him notwithstanding.
Exodus 38:8 And he made the laver of brass, and the foot of it of brass, of the lookingglasses of the women assembling, which assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
The way to become like Christ is to keep your nose in that Book and to become a doer and not just a hearer of the word. The word of God is a sure foundation. If you pray based upon any foundation other than the word of God then Satan will deceive you and make you think that the Holy Spirit is guiding you when He isn’t. Read, pray, and wait on the Lord for sure guidance based upon the words of God.
22 ¶ Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
23 Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
24 And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin:
Real prayer is like sweet spices.
“…Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do…” Luke 23:34
Genesis 8:20 ¶ And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
25 And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.
Oil is a type of the Holy Spirit.
26 And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony,
First the blood is sprinkled on it, then the oil. You can’t get the Holy Spirit without the blood of Christ.
27 And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense,
28 And the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot.
Every bit of it has to be touched by this type of the Holy Spirit.
29 And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy.
There term “holy” doesn’t mean saved. Uzzah touched the ark and was killed. Holy means “set apart” or “set aside for God’s use”.
Think on that when you read this;
1Corinthians 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
It doesn’t say they are saved from Hell but are useful to God by the presence of the saved wife and mother. This requires some thought. Words like salvation, saved, damned, damnation, condemned, don’t always have to do with Hell or Heaven.
30 And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.
31 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.
32 Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.
Until the Millennium, the Holy Spirit isn’t poured out on all flesh. The flesh is not the recipient of the Holy Spirit.
You are not to counterfeit the Holy Spirit, say, for instance with fits of emotional euphoria or ecstasy that have nothing to do with God. Don’t mistake your emotional recklessness for the Holy Spirit’s working or your self-will for the Spirit’s leading. You really can get sick of people who are getting carried away with their feelings and calling it the Holy Spirit or people who say that God has lead them to do something that they simply want to do on their own. Recently, an employer told me that of all of the applicants he had for a sales job, a significant percentage were people who had “been in the ministry”. He could not understand why they left. I told him that it was because God wasn’t really in their decision to be a minister. Most people who say they feel that God has lead them to or called them to do something are just full of beans. And so, their efforts fail or just don’t live up to their expectations.
Christianity has become, not only Satanic, but a fantasy world of self-righteous people who are legends in their own mind. We are just barely hanging on and I expect God’s visitation on us for our culture’s sins very soon.
33 Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.
34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take unto thee sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; these sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight:
35 And thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy:
Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.
Ecclesiastes 10:1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.
36 And thou shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation, where I will meet with thee: it shall be unto you most holy.
Our prayers are best when we are broken and beaten.
Psalm 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Isaiah 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
37 And as for the perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to yourselves according to the composition thereof: it shall be unto thee holy for the LORD.
38 Whosoever shall make like unto that, to smell thereto, shall even be cut off from his people.
You can’t imitate real prayer or the Holy Spirit. Those who tried to imitate the things mentioned above were to be killed, which is what “cut off” means.
Genesis 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
