A Frozen Hell, The Russo-Finnish Winter War of 1939-40 by William R. Trotter, Alqonguin Books of Chapel Hill, 2000. This is an outstanding narrative of Finland's struggle for freedom against Communist Russia. It details how the underequipped and outnumbered Finns inflicted a ten to one casualty ratio on the Soviets. The book details battle by battle and of the lies and broken promises from the Western nations of the USA, Britain, and France that they would come to the aid of Finland. It also tells of how, when Hitler turned on the Soviets, the Finns allied with him against their great enemy. This is a very good explanation of one small complexity of this very complex war.
