Psalm 100 comments; Make joyful noise unto the Lord

Psalm 100:1 ¶  «A Psalm of praise.» Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2  Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3  Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Ancient sources ascribe this Psalm to David.

Psalm 66:1 ¶  «To the chief Musician, A Song or Psalm.» Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: … 4  All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.

This is a song of praise and thanksgiving that would benefit us all to remember.

Psalm 95:2  Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

This is an acknowledgment that God Himself created a people, the nation of Israel, and we can include the fact that God Himself created all things. The logic here is impeccable. Nothing creates itself except in science fiction. And God took Abram out of the Gentiles to create a people for Himself.

Psalm 95:6  O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. 7a ¶  For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

We should praise Him in His glory

Psalm 116:17  I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD. 18  I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people, 19  In the courts of the LORD’S house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.

He is a most merciful God and His truth will endure forever.

Psalm 86:5  For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Psalm 106:1 ¶  Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

We should have this confidence in the God who created us, who loved us at the Cross, and who justified us at the empty tomb. We should have this confidence in the God who makes our hearts beat and the wind blow. We should have this confidence in the God who sustains all things by His word. We should have this confidence in the God with whom we will spend eternity if we are His.
