For
he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. 7 And there was a cloud
that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my
beloved Son: hear him.
This
happened at Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist when the concept of the Trinity
of God, the body, soul, and Spirit of God acting in unity, shows up in the New
Testament as it had done in the Old (Genesis 1:2, 3, 26; 3:22);
Matthew
3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water:
and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:17 And lo a voice from heaven,
saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Mark
1:9 ¶ And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of
Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. 10 And straightway coming up out
of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending
upon him: 11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved
Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Luke
3:21 ¶ Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also
being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost
descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven,
which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
The
doctrine of the Son (capital S) of God is a very important one. The Son of God
refers to God’s sojourn on the earth in the flesh. Jesus is the physical image
of God, the body of God.
Hebrews
1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son,
whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and
upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged
our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Colossians
1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Who
is the angel, or appearance, of God;
Isaiah
63:9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence
saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and
carried them all the days of old.
Judges
2:1 And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made
you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware
unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
Acts
27:23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I
serve,
Galatians
4:14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but
received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
The
Son, capital S, of God is equal with God;
John
5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had
broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal
with God.
Philippians
2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
And
even though men like Alexander the Great and Roman Emperor Octavian Augustus
Caesar declared themselves to be the son of god or the son of a god the Bible
says that the only time God came in the flesh was through Jesus Christ. He, not
any of them, was the “only begotten Son of God.”
John
1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John
1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the
bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
John
3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John
3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God.
1John
4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his
only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Jesus
is also the spoken word by which the universe was created. He created it and
He, not Dark Matter or Dark Energy, holds it together. He is the “and God said”
ten times in Genesis, chapter one.
John
1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by
him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.4 In him was life;
and the life was the light of men. 5 ¶ And the light shineth in darkness; and
the darkness comprehended it not.
Ephesians
3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from
the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by
Jesus Christ:
Colossians
1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or
principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And
he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
And
there is no other way to be saved from a lost, agonizing eternity except
through Him.
Acts
4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name
under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
You
can’t even approach the Godhead except through Christ.
John
14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me.
In
fact, looking at Jesus is looking at God the Father in the flesh;
John
10:30 I and my Father are one.
John
14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou
not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest
thou then, Shew us the Father?
And
not believing what Jesus has said about himself is the reason that the unsaved
will face God’s wrath.
John
3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth
not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
