Leviticus 16:1 ¶
And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron,
when they offered before the LORD, and died; 2
And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come
not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy
seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the
cloud upon the mercy seat. 3 Thus shall
Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering,
and a ram for a burnt offering. 4 He
shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his
flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall
he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his
flesh in water, and so put them on.
Here are instructions for Aaron so that when he comes into the
presence of God, who will appear in a cloud on the mercy seat on the ark.
Notice that Aaron, in keeping with the works aspect of the Law given to Moses,
must wash HIMSELF and put on holy garments.
But, for the Christian, after the Resurrection of Christ, and by
faith in Him we are washed;
1Corinthians 6:11 And such
were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of
the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Titus 3:3 For we ourselves
also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and
pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man
appeared, 5 Not by works of
righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by
the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus
Christ our Saviour; 7 That being
justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of
eternal life.
And on
being clothed in righteousness from God as stated first in Isaiah.
Isaiah 61:10 ¶ I will
greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath
clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of
righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself
with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself
with her jewels.
Notice
this metaphor regarding garments and righteousness.
Revelation 19:8 And to her
was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean
and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
So, while the instructions here in Leviticus apply to the Aaronic
priesthood who must conform to certain rules in the presence of God the
Christian has those things applied to Him by God in whose presence we always
are as His Spirit, His very mind is in us. Our righteousness is actually His
righteousness.
We
must remember that our righteousness is from Jesus Christ, not from us.
Philippians 1:11 Being
filled with the fruits of righteousness,
which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
Philippians 3:9 And be
found in him, not having mine own righteousness,
which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by
faith:
John 14:23 Jesus answered
and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will
love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Romans 8:9 But ye are not
in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
Now if any man have not the Spirit
of Christ, he is none of his.
We
have access to the very mind of God.
1Corinthians 2:16 For who
hath known the mind of the Lord,
that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
