Psalm 93:1 ¶
The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with
strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is
stablished, that it cannot be moved. 2
Thy throne is established of old: thou art from
everlasting. 3 The floods have lifted
up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their
waves. 4 The LORD on high is
mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of
the sea. 5 Thy testimonies are very
sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.
According to John Gill some ascribed this
Psalm to Moses and some to David although he insists that David is more likely.
Christ reigns over all things and is clothed
with majesty and honor.
Matthew 28:18
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me
in heaven and in earth.
Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha
and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Psalm 104:1 ¶
Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art
clothed with honour and majesty. 2 Who
coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens
like a curtain:
Is verse one suggesting that the earth is
fixed and unmoving while the heavens revolve around it as some say? Atheist
Astronomer Fred Hoyle wrote in his textbook on Cosmology;
“We
now know that the difference between a heliocentric theory and a geocentric
theory is one of relative motion only, and that such a difference has no
physical significance.”[1]
Perhaps,
though, this statement in verse one tells us that the earth will remain,
regardless, until Christ Himself creates a new heaven and a new earth.
Isaiah 65:17 ¶ For, behold, I create new heavens and a new
earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
In verse 2 we have the eternal nature of God
spoken of. God is not bound by time, space, or matter. He dwells in eternity,
endless time or all things happening at once, depending on the definition.
Isaiah 57:15
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose
name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a
contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive
the heart of the contrite ones.
When Christ is likened in typology to
Melchizidec, king of Salem and priest of God, who honored Abraham, it is said;
Hebrews 7:1 ¶
For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who
met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of
all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also
King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 3
Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither
beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth
a priest continually.
Anyone who has been caught in a storm at sea
knows about the awesome power and might of those crashing winds and giant
waves. It is awe-inspiring and terrifying. Yet God is mightier than even that.
Psalm 107:29 He maketh the
storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Mark 4:39
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be
still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
The Psalmist expressed complete confidence in
what God says and so should we. God is
mightier than all of our troubles and temptations, than the government of our
country or those powers behind the true rulers of this world. Yes, He is more
powerful than Satan.
It is important for us to understand the sovereignty
of God to feel confident in His statements and to have the faith that allows us
to accept adversity and tribulation and move forward. I pray that we all
contemplate who God is. I would refer you to my sermon entitled, “Who is God?”
for a deeper dive on that subject.
