1 ¶ These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his
eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy
Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou
hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as
many as thou hast given him. 3 And this
is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ,
whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified
thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine
own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
As the time for Christ’s crucifixion, His resurrection, and
His ascension are at hand Christ explains that these events will glorify the
Father as the Father glorifies Him.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,
All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Christ has power over all flesh to give eternal life to men
and women who will receive Him but other things will result from this, as well,
such as God cleansing the animal world so that no animal is unclean to us.
Acts 10:9 ¶ On the morrow, as they went on their journey,
and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the
sixth hour: 10 And he became very
hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain
vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four
corners, and let down to the earth: 12
Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts,
and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 13
And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have
never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15 And the voice spake unto him again the second
time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
Christ is completing His mission in a human body.
Hebrews 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he
saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared
me:… 10 By the which will we are
sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Again, here we have Christ identifying with God as God, in
the reference to the glory He has in the heavenly realm. Remember the first
verses of this gospel.
John 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God. 2
The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him
was not any thing made that was made.
Later, John will write;
1John 1:1 ¶ That which was from the beginning, which we
have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and
our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2
(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and
shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested
unto us;) 3 That which we have seen and
heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly
our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your
joy may be full.
