A Short History of the Christian Church

by John Fletcher Hurst,D.D., LL.D. (New York: Harper and Brothers Publishers, 1892). Hurst was a bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church and first Chancellor of American University. He was born in Dorchester County, Maryland and died in Bethesda, Maryland. His having been polluted by German Higher Criticism during his education in Germany is not apparent in this work which is purely historical. He covers a wide range of denominations and religious sects from the most ancient past until the late 19th century (the 1800's). This is very interesting and opens the door to many old books that might still be found in some attic or on openlibrary.org. Its worth the read and some information that has been ignored for over a century is available to you in this book. Definitely a must for the student of American Christianity without the pollution of either Marxism or Ayn Rand's Objectivism. Just old fashioned concern for the lost and Hellbound.
