Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation: The End of Slavery in Americaby Allen C. Guelzo. This book is surprising in its depth and in the richness of its writing. Gettysburg College's Allen Guelzo deserves his ranking as one of the premier Lincoln historians. Its fascinating to see how the Civil War changed Lincoln from a profane railroad lawyer who mocked the Bible to a President who fretted about God's will. Very intriguing story.
