How to Read the Bible and Understand What you Read

KEY WORDS
This is the major and most widely used method of studying the Bible.

1. Read the Bible.
2. Search key words

For example, beginning in Genesis 1:1, select key words, such as: 'beginning,' 'created,' 'heaven,' and 'earth.' "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."

Find other verses in the Bible which use each of the selected key words. To find these places use a concordance, a computer Bible program search, or personal examination.

These other contexts will give God's meaning of the word and expand the understanding of the verse. With this method on the first day of Bible study in Gen. 1:1, the reader learns that it was "God, who created all things by Jesus Christ" (Eph. 3:9).

Mat 16:18. Look throughout the entire Bible at all of the other occurrences of the word 'rock.'

Even Peter himself knew Jesus Christ is the rock. He wrote in the scriptures, "To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious:...a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word..." 1 Peter 2:4-8

WORD DEFINITIONS - defining words with pegs & the Bible's built in dictionary

The King James Bible's built-in dictionary defines all of its vocabulary for you.

1. The definition may be the word next to the word.
2. The definition may be in the same verse.
3. The definition may be in the preceding or the following verse.
4. The definition may be somewhere in the chapter.

" God teaches by repetition.
" He says the same thing in a number of ways.
" He uses repeated words (PEGS) to affirm the relationship between two thoughts.

To locate the built-in definition, follow these steps.

Underline the words which surround the word in question.

Look for those same words repeated elsewhere:

" in the verse (Usually the definition will be in a nearby verse.)
" in the following or preceding verse
" in the chapter
" in the book of the Bible
" in the entire Bible

Underline these matching words. The words which are repeated are the PEGS which indicate that a parallelism occurs. To find the pegs it will be necessary to look for the double occurrence of words in the context. This entails going through the context word by word, looking for recurrences of any words. There may be numerous reoccurrences of many words. Once these are all marked, the parallel thoughts and verses will pop out, because they contain identical words.

The parallel sentences containing the identical pegwords also contain words which do not match; these words are often synonyms, that is, words which have the same meaning and are definitions of the word in question.

Define: cumbrance

Step 1: Read the immediate context.
"How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?" Deut. 1:12

Step 2: Underline the surrounding words. (Remember mark all nearby words, such as 'bear,' 'alone,' 'and' etc..)
"How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and..."

Underline them. Here, the key repeated word is 'your.' "How can I myself alone bear your

Step 4: Find the word or words which occur in a parallel position to the word in question.

Definition: A cumbrance is a troublesome burden or a burden with strife, which is trouble.

Okay, now you're going to do it. Go to 1 Peter 3:10,11 Define eschew in the context.

Eschew means to refrain from something.

Now for a simpler one. Go to Ruth 4: 9. Now you all know what bought means but we're going to define it using this method.

9 " And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi. 10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day."

Now, go to Mark 1:20-31. Mark's gospel is an action gospel with one event moving into the next and he uses the word "straightway" several times, which carries with it the suggestion of immediacy. We can figure that out. But what about the words "forthwith" in verse 29 and"anon" in verse 30? Well, let's examine the overall context AND its tone, underline the words around it, and look for the repeated words.

20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.
29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

Now judging by the tone and the context, what do anon and forthwith mean?
They, like straightway and immediately, are adverbs meaning immediately, right away.
Remember this method and at some time I'd like you to use to define in Ezekiel 35:5,6 the word "sith".
What does it mean based on this method?
Now, let's look at the definitions in the verse.
John 6:69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
John 16:30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
To believe is to be what?

Tell someone to arise and ask them if it means get up.
Jeremiah 49:31 Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the LORD, which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
When God gives you something and you are blessed by him what does that look like?
Genesis 30:13 And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.
What does it mean to hate somebody?
Psalm 139:22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
But, wait, we're onto something else now, multiple definitions or a different definition of a word based on context.
Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
Oh my word! Smacks his forehead. Are we supposed to count our father and our mother as enemies, to hate them considering Exodus 20:12 "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee."? Its repeated by Paul in Ephesians 6:2. I've heard preachers say we have to hate our family to love Christ. But, is there another definition of hate without violating God's standard of right?
Let's look at Genesis 29:30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years. 31 And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.
Leah was hated because Jacob loved Rachel more. They may choose to be our enemies but its them not us that's making that choice. And here's the definitive justification for that view.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
You can do this yourself as you read. Think about this and pray about it. Each method has its place and won't hold true in every situation but each are useful in their own place.
While we're on hate, here's a verse that presents an interesting question.
Amos 5:21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

Hate is also a synonym of despise. What does despise mean?
Leviticus 26:15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:
Here, just as statutes, judgments, commandments, and covenant are linked, to depise and to abhor are linked.
1Samuel 2:30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
By contrast, God links despising with being lightly esteemed which is to hold in low regard, to not think of as being important. See how honour is contrasted first?
Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
God places a high value on a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart. He doesn't hold it in low regard. Do you lightly esteem or despise his judgments? His commandments?
Compare and contrast on your own.
Now, sometimes God links two words by having a New Testament speaker allude to or refer to a verse in the Old Testament but changing a word. This makes them mean the same idea, the same concept.
Jesus defines Thou Shalt Not Kill in Exodus 20 in Matthew 19:18 as murder. This is a relief as "Thou Shalt Not Kill" would have been a very difficult command for the Jews to obey if they were going to obey the rest of the orders they received from God regarding blasphemers, sons who cursed their parents, people who violated the Sabbath, or the Canaanites themselves.
Isaiah 9:1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
Matthew 4:14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, 15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
Why is nations in the Old Testament and Gentiles in the New? Because "nations" is a reference to the "gentiles". They are synonymous. Israel isn't counted among the nations.

Genesis 10:5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
Numbers 23:9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
So, when you read nations think of Gentile heathens.
Now, you should look for New Testament quotations that quote Old Testament verses with a word change to denote how God is drawing them together, in your own reading.
Like;
Mt 12:20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
Isaiah 42:3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
What is truth, Pilate asks?
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus is the only truth. There is no victory apart from Him. Victory and truth are linked here. Now, look for these links as you read and compare verses.
Here's one the Pastor has used before in explanation. Jesus is reading.
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Here's the Old Testament passage;
Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
What is the gospel? Its Good Tidings or Good News.
Another thing you can do to help you understand is look at how the Holy Spirit uses the word "even" to link two synonyms, or like words, or like concepts, but most importantly things that are the same. This isn't even like night but even the adverb.

Genesis 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
Well there's a good start. I and I are the same individual.
Genesis 19:9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
The man is Lot.
Exodus 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:
And who is "Israel my son"?
In this verse "even Jesus" defines who?
1Thessalonians 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come

When the Bible uses the word God in the New Testament, usually what person of the trinity is it referring to?
Romans 15:6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Corinthian 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
2Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

The word even can mean other things, as well, like evening, but if you study you can see how it can help you understand the Bible.
Look for opposites in the same verse and similarities among words. Look for parallel phrasing in surrounding verses for definitions and contrast. Don't be put off by words you don't usually see.
Besom - Isaiah 14:23. What starts with a b and ends with an om and sweeps? So, a besom is a type of broom. Just imagine some twigs tied together around a pole, used to sweep the dirt floor of a primitive home.
Jeremiah 24:2 One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad. 3 Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
What is the definition of naughty?
Here's a confirmation.
Proverbs 6:12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
There are many other things we could go over but you need to get into the practice of using these first. Next we'll discuss how the Bible is constructed for your understanding.
The Bible is written in Dispensational order. Let me explain what a dispensation is and what it is not. First the Bible contains the Old Testament of which Genesis covers half of human history, then we go on to the Law, books of history, and the Prophets, so arranged as to look forward to Christ's first and second advents where they were originally arranged within the books of history with 2 Chronicles where the Persian king tells the Jews to go back to the land as being the end of the Hebrew Bible.
In the Gospels you are still under the Law and then after Jesus is resurrected you have the Acts chronicling his ascension and the early history of the church and how God slowly changes the way He deals with His church. Compare Acts 2 with Acts 10, for instance. You have Paul's writings to the church, that's us, and then you have the General letters or, what I call the Tribulation letters where the law comes into focus again, and finally Revelation.

One way of looking at the Bible and how to understand it is called Dispensationalism. A dispensation is an economy of management or a way of handling a household. Dispensationalism is based on the belief that God deals with different people throughout history in different ways. It is pure doctrinal in its import. You see, every verse in the Bible applies to you spiritually and practically. Hebrews 6:4-6 can give you assurance of your salvation in that you can't get saved twice, James 2:26 tells you to put your actions where your mouth is, and the books of the Law promise us that God will drive our sins from us if we obey Him like the Canaanites were to be driven from before the Hebrews if they had obeyed. There is always a spiritual application which great preachers and Bible translators like William Tyndale claimed were in every verse. Dispensationalism is about doctrine, the way things are done, and isn't about a spiritual or practical application of every verse to the Christian. In that regard, good preaching isn't necessarily good doctrine. A strict dispensationalist would make a terrible preacher as he would be handing out interesting facts but not inspiring his people to live for Christ.
Dispensationalism is a way of understanding the Bible and not being confused by it, not necessarily a way of making a closer walk with the Lord. The Bible can be understood in three ways; Spiritual or practical; the most important, Doctrinal, second, and finally Historical, or "Isaiah preached for 50 years from so and so to so and so…"
This is in opposition to those people who say that the Bible and all of the doctrines are exactly the same from Noah, to Abraham, to Moses, to Jesus, to the Tribulation. This opposition is based on the fact that in order to take the Bible as the same all the way through you are forced to take some verses literally and others that contradict what you read as figurative or symbolic. You have to beware of someone who says, "I know what it says, but what it really means is…..", as this is the basis of all modern cults.
What dispensationalism is not is a difference in what you are looking either forward to or backward to, which is Christ. Notice in the book that was written, according to many Bible Believers, before Moses wrote down the first five books from Genesis to Deuteronomy, the book of Job, written around 1800BC PERHAPS, these statements;
Job is looking forward to a Redeemer;
Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
And he is looking forward to a resurrection;
Job 19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:1
He is proclaiming his need for someone to be a mediator between himself and God.

Job 9:33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.
Abraham looks forward to Christ's sacrifice on the cross.
Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
Isaiah is also looking forward to a resurrection of people and of Christ.
Isaiah 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
And he is looking forward to Christ's crucifixion.
Isaiah 52: 13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. 14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: 15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
And the King David also looks forward to the events of the Cross.

Do you remember how Christ began this Psalm on the Cross leading us to it?

And those who are born again through Christ;
30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. 31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

There are many more verses having to do with looking forward to the Messiah, Redeemer, and our Passover Lamb. Salvation in the Old Testament is predicated on believing what God has said as it is in the New. While God isn't dealing with each group of people in exactly the same way as they live before or after the Cross the principles He uses are still the same.
A dispensation is not a period of time. It is a way of dealing. While I believe that the Bible is laid out in perfect dispensational order, I am aware that any verse that doesn't contradict verses for the dispensation under which I live in this Church age, the letters of Paul, applies doctrinally to me as well.
While there is supernatural healing under the law, during the age of the Apostles, and in the Tribulation letters, I am aware that God can heal at any time and any one He pleases. Dispensationalism does not try to limit God, it is merely a way of understanding His general purposes. In the same way, God's grace is present throughout all ages of man's time on earth so there is no exclusive Age of Grace although a very special grace came through Jesus Christ.
God has dealt dispensationally in noticeably different ways with Noah who had to build and enter the Ark, Abraham who had to leave his homeland and be willing to kill his own son, Moses who had to go back to Egypt and lead his people, Paul who had to be made a new creature in Christ, and the rest of the Apostles, and in the book of Hebrews and Revelation you can certainly lose your salvation and you are doomed if you do - once.
There are people who twist dispensationalism into knots though, denying the Scripture they say they love. A hyperdispensationalist says you get saved differently in the Old Testament than in the New by an incorrect definition of the phrase "to be cut off", which in Bible definition is to be killed. At times depending on context it may mean further to go to Hell but literally and specifically it means to be killed.
Zechariah 11:9 Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.
Zechariah 13:8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
Galatians 5:12 I would they were even cut off which trouble you. (Of course, the people who were troubling the Galatians were going to Hell anyway so this is a reference to death, or at least that's what I think).
Other hyperdispensationalists deny that Christians should be baptized in water. But, there are extremes in every way of thinking.

What dispensationalism is, is the difference in eternal security, and the certainty one's indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
For instance, if I look at Paul's writing to the church at Rome we see him saying;
2Co 1:22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
See how we, in this dispensation have been sealed unto the day of redemption, after we had believed, by God. We have the Holy Spirit and we are sealed.
But, in a different dispensation it was not so.
Psalm 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Judges 3:10 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.
Judges 16:20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
1Samuel 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
So, the Holy Spirit comes on and off people in the Old Testament and yet, those who experience the new birth are sealed. This is evidence of a different dispensation or a way of dealing with people.
Everyone is a dispensationalist to a certain degree. Most everyone uses a Bible with an Old and New Testament. Most people believe that there are some differences, the question is to degree.
The Bible is a dispensational book. Note what is said here.
Exodus 34:7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. 25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? 26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Now, dispensationalism has also to do with different covenants or agreements which God has made with mankind through the people He chose, the Jews.
First, there was a covenant with Noah after the flood. Abraham did not have to build a boat and go through the destruction of the world but had to leave his homeland and offer his son up. Both men had to obey God, but both men had different conditions to meet.
Under the law the Jews had to obey hundreds of dietary, ceremonial, and moral laws to receive God's blessings. They were killed when they failed, and some of those even went into Hell, or they suffered as a nation droughts and invasions among other things.
Under grace we can not lose our salvation and go to Hell although we can be killed when we insist on living in the flesh.
Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
In some forms of dispensationalism the Christian era ends in slavery (Philemon) just before the rapture, then Hebrews begins the Tribulation when the Holy Spirit is speaking to Jewish believers in Christ who can lose their salvation and who can not regain it…..
Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
and who, if they take the Mark of the Beast and don't endure to the end, are damned.

Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
So, the essential thing to remember about dispensationalism is that in no way does it attempt to limit God or to keep you from drawing nearer to Christ. It is a way of understanding God's general purposes and His way of dealing with mankind. Your first and most important application of the Bible is spiritual or practical, what you normally hear from the pulpit. What dispensationalism does is to cut down on the confusion and give you the Bible as your Book, something that you can understand as simply as possible and hopefully make its daily reading and study a joy and a blessing.
