Growth of the American Revoluion, 1766-1775, by Bernhard Knollenberg, The Free Press, 1975. This is a very enjoyable and highly readable book that puts events in perspective and in a way the average person can understand. He quotes a lot of direct sources I had not been aware of and brings it all together very nicely.
