7:17
¶ And the flood was forty days upon the
earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above
the earth. 18 And the waters prevailed,
and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of
the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed
exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole
heaven, were covered. 20 Fifteen cubits
upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.
It
is easy here to surmise that the upthrust of the great mountain ranges was a
consequence of the violent cataclysm of the Flood. Rapid deformation of the
earth’s surface as the fountains of the
great deep were broken up took
place rather quickly. When you consider that fifteen cubits would be in a range
of 22 to 30 feet and we’ve already seen the theory that the water under the
earth’s surface could cover the continents in 600 feet of water, it makes sense
that this statement refers to there being upwards of 30 feet of water over the
highest mountain or hill which would not have been in the range of what we
think of regarding today’s mountains. It was an earth, before the Flood,
consisting of one giant land-mass and an ocean, with the only mountains being high hills and a worldwide tropical environment containing many
times the biomass of plant and animal life we have on our beautiful but
degraded earth.
Some
very interesting comments about this theory regarding the evidence of recent
mountain change uplight can be found if one is willing to consider it.[1]
7:21
¶ And all flesh died that moved upon the
earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing
that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: 22
All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry
land, died. 23 And every living
substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and
cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were
destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with
him in the ark. 24 And the waters
prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
The
context here shows that the definition of All
in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died
is all flesh and every living substance referring to
things that breathed air on dry land.
