4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye
are called in one hope of your calling;
The body of Christ is the physical church, composed of one
group of people, those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ, the visible
image of the invisible God, as their Saviour. Chapter three, verse 15, lets us
know that the family of God is in heaven and earth, those who are here and
those who have gone on.
Unity is again implied here. There isn’t a Baptist church and
there aren’t Protestant churches, a Roman Catholic Church, or a Greek Orthodox
Church. There is only one church consisting of all those people who are
trusting in Christ’s righteousness and not their own to obtain eternal life.
This church consists of men and women everywhere who believe in Christ’s
resurrection and what He said about Himself.
Jesus Himself said;
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the
truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me…..9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long
time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me
hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
Peter said;
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for
there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be
saved.
Paul told the Philippian jailer;
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus
Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Paul told the Romans;
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the
Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the
dead, thou shalt be saved.
(Note: confess or swear to God – Isaiah 45:23; Romans 14:11
Isaiah 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out
of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee
shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord,
every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.)
Or as John wrote;
1John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and
hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are
in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and
eternal life.
Finally, in reference to Jesus Christ, here is something else
that John informed us of;
John 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God.
There is one Spirit that confirms and teaches us these
things. There is one hope in your calling and that is eternal life with your
Creator.
The simple fact is if you do not believe in a supernatural
resurrection; the bodily physical resurrection of Christ, that He is, indeed,
God in the flesh, and trust in His righteousness and not your own to be saved,
then you are not a Christian and not a member of this one body.
