The Empire of Liberty, A History of the Early Republic, 1789-1815 by Gordon S. Wood, Oxford University Press, 2009. If the rest of the books in the Oxford HIstory of the United States are this well written, this fascinating, and this full of useful and impartially given information then I intend to read them all. This is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. If you want to know why we are where we are today it is vitally important to see where we came from. Both Liberal and Conservative will be amazed and will probably have to reevaluate their historical position within the framework of what it means to be an American upon reading this book. Not only a great read, but a very, very important read
