New Views of the Constitution of the United States by John Taylor of Caroline, Virginia, Way and Gideon, Washington, DC. 1823. What a mess. No wonder there has been so much arguing about the Constitution and what it means with regard to states rights. The original writers didn't agree with each other about what kind of government they wanted, either national or federal, with states as mere corporations of fundamental units of government. This document was doomed from the start. There's no point in arguing about going back to the Constitution. You couldn't define what it meant if you had a gun to your head.
