Mark
15:16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called
Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. 17 And they
clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his
head,
The
Romans put this robe on him. The robe is to make fun of him, a mockery of his
kingship, as purple was a color noted among royalty.
Mark
15:18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon
him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. 20 And when they had
mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him,
and led him out to crucify him.
Notice
the mockery of Jesus.
Isaiah
50:6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the
hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
Isaiah
53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for
our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his
stripes we are healed.
Mark
15:21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming
out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
Alexander and Rufus must have been
important Christians eventually. Rufus is mentioned in Romans 16. There are a
couple of Alexanders mentioned. But the one in 1 Timothy 1:20 might be him.
Mark
15:22 ¶ And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being
interpreted, The place of a skull.
Golgotha
is the Aramaic word while Calvary is from the Latin. Interpreted is translated
as in an interpreter at the U.N.
Mark 15:23 And they
gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
24 And
when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them,
what every man should take.
Psalm
22:18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my
vesture.
Mark
15:25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
This
is nine o’clock in the morning.
Mark
15:26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE
KING OF THE JEWS. 27 And with him they crucify two thieves;
the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.
The
entire human race is on a cross. Either you are on his left hand or on his
right. One will receive Him and one will reject.
Mark
15:28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was
numbered with the transgressors.
Isaiah
53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he
shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul
unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of
many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Mark
15:29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads,
and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.
Proverbs
22:7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip,
they shake the head, saying, 8 He
trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he
delighted in him.
Mark
15:31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves
with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save. 32 Let
Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and
believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.
In
Luke we find that one of the malefactors hanging on the crosses on either side
of Jesus believed on Him.
Mark
15:33 ¶ And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over
the whole land until the ninth hour.
This
is noon, our time. Here is a physical sign for the Jews and the Romans.
Amos
8:9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that
I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the
clear day:
Part
of Jeremiah 15:9 says….her sun is gone down while it was yet day:
See
how this links with His Second Advent;
Joel
2:1 ¶ Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy
mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD
cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 2 A day
of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the
morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not
been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many
generations.
Hebrews
9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that
look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Mark
15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,
Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why
hast thou forsaken me?
This
is 3pm our time. He is quoting Psalm 22 for you to see.
Psalm
22:1 To the chief Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David.
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me,
and from the words of my roaring?
Read
the rest of the Psalm and notice those of us who are born again through Christ.
Psalm
22:30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for
a generation.
We
deserve to be forsaken by our God. If we had not received what Christ did for
us on the cross, we would be doomed to Hell. At that point, God the Father
turned his back on what was a worm on the cross. This is what Jesus Christ did
for us. This makes me more ashamed when I am led apart by my own lusts and sin.
God
the Father turned His back on God the Son and the Son could not even have the
sun on His face in His desperation. The darkness is a sign of God’s utter
rejection of sin.
2Corinthians
5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be
made the righteousness of God in him.
