1 ¶ After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
They plan on doing this in secret. They don’t want the people to rise up. But, God has other plans on the Passover which is also the beginning of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Luke 22:1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
Apparently, Simon the leper is the owner of the house, perhaps the landlord, because Mary, Martha, and Lazarus live there. This is very expensive ointment. For you to be able to truly worship Christ your body has to broken, the outside box that carries what is of value. If your flesh is not conquered you will have a hard time wanting to serve God. The flesh either fights your worship or Satan counterfeits your worship, making you think that worshipping in the flesh is okay.
4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
The complaint was made by Judas, the betrayer.
John 12:4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him, 5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
Stay away from complainers lest you become one. Leave your church before you become a complainer if there is great controversy there. Either don’t listen or leave. But don’t be a griper.
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
Now, to understand how much this was worth, with penny being the singular of pence. Matthew 20 shows that a penny was a day’s wages so that this ointment was nearly a year’s pay! That might be $50,000 to some of us. Whatever the case, it’s a lot of money.
6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
No matter what programs you have for the poor, you’ll always have them.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
Have you done what you could for Christ? Face your life with that? Have you done what you could?
9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
This is a strange thing. Who talks about this? Will this be preached in the Tribulation? The picture is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ so why isn’t it preached today?
10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
Judas is one of the original twelve disciples. The prophecy is there, all throughout the Old Testament, but in the New, his name is provided. Judas decides to betray Christ. Here is one example;
Psalm 41:9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
Check out references to “the wicked” also.
11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
1Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
12 ¶ And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
Each of us has a house that God has built and we are to do with it what He requires. The house is our body.
15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
For those who believed in closed communion then let me just say that Jesus permitted a devil to celebrate the Lord’s Supper with Him. Judas was allowed to be with the disciples. Let every man examine himself.
1Corinthians 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
In another gospel this scene is told in more detail.
21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
Judas has agreed and consented to being used to fulfill this prophecy. We choose whom we will serve but we have not control over what happens like we think we do. Once you have chosen evil and sin, it will consume you.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
Including Judas. So much for closed communion.
Psalm 41:9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
Jesus did not say that the bread becomes His body or that the wine became His blood. He said it was His body and blood. He is making an allegorical reference. The wine and bread are in type, His blood and body. They represent His blood and His body. Don’t get confused.
“New wine” can be understood here.
Isaiah 65:8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.
It is freshly squeezed from the grapes. Here is the “wine of the condemned”.
Amos 2:8 And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.
Micah 2:11 If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.
26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
I am imagining that these will be from the Psalms, this hymn He is singing with His disciples.
27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
Zechariah 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.
Peter was sincere but, like me, and everyone else, found it impossible to live up to his words. It is easier to become a martyr in one blaze of glory than it would be to live for Christ day to day, rejecting sin, or to be tortured continually. Richard Wurmbrand, the Pastor who founded Voice of the Martyrs, was tortured by the communist regimes in Eastern Europe for well over a decade.
We dream that we are always the hero but in our day to day lives we fail Christ continually. Christ knows this. That is why we can only have hope by depending upon Christ’s righteousness, not our own.
30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.
One of the most dedicated Pastor’s I have ever met is a sadist when it comes to women without husbands in his congregation. His son is even worse. I have repeatedly made promises to God about what I would and wouldn’t do and have failed repeatedly because of the weakness of my flesh. Everywhere around us are examples of people who at one time made a bold promise before God and, at some point, denied Christ with their behavior. There was a famous preacher in Jacksonville, Florida who was found to have a sexual perversion he had practiced for years. Christians fail Christ, and thereby deny Him by their actions every day.
Jesus knows the shallowness of our promises when we say them.
32 ¶ And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
Many times you also will be alone in your service to Christ.
35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
He prays by Himself and there is no answer from heaven. When was there a time when you prayed and felt that heaven was so far away as in the pop song? He asked, if it were possible, that He might not have to endure this in His humanity.
It’s not just death for He is about to take on the sins of the whole world. However, death for His human body was a factor.
Hebrews 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
The essence of successful and correct prayer is to submit to God’s perfect will, no matter how painful it is to us.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
Be spiritually alert to keep from falling into temptation. We need to pray before we sin in order to keep from falling into sin.
Job 31:1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?
James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 13 ¶ Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
1Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
I have failed miserably in all of this. That doesn’t make it not true.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
He is going to confront his betrayer and the arresting agents.
43 ¶ And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
This was apparently a custom at the time. We don’t feel comfortable with this today but sometimes people will hug you. I, personally, don’t feel comfortable with such familiarity. A handshake or a nod or a smile are good enough for me. This is probably easier in a church under persecution. Perhaps, by necessity they must trust each other and be close.
Romans16:16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.
1Corinthians 16:20 All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.
2Corinthians 13:12 Greet one another with an holy kiss.
1Thessalonians 5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
But beware of such a kiss.
Genesis 29:13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
2Samuel 15:4 Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice! 5 And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.
2 Samuel 20:9 And Joab said to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him. 10 But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab’s hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
This was the signal. Judas called him, Master.
46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
Jesus heals him as related in Luke.
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
Zechariah 13:7 ¶ Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
Commentators throughout history have tried to guess who this was. I’ve heard things so radical that this was an angel or that this might have been Paul as Saul. But, we don’t know who it was, really. I assume it was the apostle John, the youngest of the twelve.
53 ¶ And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
Do you follow Jesus from afar and are you warming your hands over the devil’s fire? Peter is taking the first steps toward denying Christ and what he had previously promised. How many times have I kept silent when I should have proclaimed Christ? Each time you don’t take the opportunity to declare your faith you get closer and closer to denying it.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
Even the authorities find that Jesus is innocent.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
Their own witnesses can’t agree and can’t keep their lies straight.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
Matthew relates two false witnesses who could not agree. They obviously didn’t understand what He had said and they lied. Here’s what he said;
John 2:18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? 19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
The operative word is “this” in verse 19 referring to His body and “this” in verse 20 in which they are referring to the physical temple. This same mistake is made by the Roman Catholic Church here;
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
“This” rock refers to Himself, not to Peter.
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Now, He has said it. This is an explosive statement.
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Daniel 7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
He has claimed to be God and the Messiah. They had to make a choice now. Either they accept Him as their Messiah or they reject Him. Either Jesus is a liar or He is God. You have to make a choice.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
Isaiah 50:6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
66 ¶ And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
Peter is warming his hands over the devil’s fire. He has taken a small step. It only takes one small step for us to descend into sin. We take one small step at a time. Peter got angry because Jesus told him to put away the sword.
What does it take to knock you down?
69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
Peter is with the wrong crowd. He has the wrong attitude. Now, he has gone so far to curse and swear. He has denied Christ. It doesn’t take much to go back to sins that he once held. Perhaps he hadn’t swore like a fisherman does for three and a half years.
72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
What will it take for you to deny Christ? Hanging out with the wrong crowd? Losing control of your emotions? Lying? How often, Christian, have you denied Christ with your behavior?
In Luke 22 we are told of another signal that gets to him besides Christ’s prophecy. At that point Peter sees Christ, who is looking at him.
Peter’s victory is his repentance. He wept. See John 21:15 to see the related conversation with the post-resurrection Christ.

Leviticus, chapter 17
1 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Bible records over a hundred incidents where the Lord talked to Moses. What a record. Would it were that we should be this close to our Creator.
2 Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them; This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, saying,
3 What man soever there be of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp,
4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people:
This is pretty strict. I am amazed at all of the religious groups that want to place their people back under the Law and don’t see how impossible it is for them to live the Law.
5 To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the LORD.
6 And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the LORD.
7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.
God likens worshipping other gods to adultery. He refers to His people who look to other gods as being whores. There is a distinct religious significance in marriage and in the union of flesh with flesh. Israel is Jehovah’s wife. See the book of the prophet Hosea. If the church is the bride of Christ, as the Bible seems to indicate, then our reliance upon human government is one form of going a whoring. Our dependence upon our material wealth is another form. Our love of movie stars, gurus, and sports figures is another.
The Christian Church in America spends a great deal of time and money offering their sacrifices unto devils.
8 And thou shalt say unto them, Whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers which sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering or sacrifice,
Now, remember that the word, “strangers”, refers to foreigner, not a merely an odd person. Here is the Bible definition.
Genesis 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
Genesis 17:12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
Genesis 23:4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
Exodus 12:49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.
Exodus 22:21 Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Leviticus 24:22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
Throughout the Bible the meaning is clear to any who have common sense.
9 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the LORD; even that man shall be cut off from among his people.
10 ¶ And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
It is forbidden to eat blood before the Law;
Genesis 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Under the Law here, and even after the Law, under the doctrines of grace;
Acts 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.
13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.
14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.
They who ate blood were to be killed, cut off from their people.
15 And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.
16 But if he wash them not, nor bathe his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.

Genesis 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
Genesis 17:12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
Genesis 23:4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
Exodus 12:49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.
Exodus 22:21 Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Leviticus 24:22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
Throughout the Bible the meaning is clear to any who have common sense.
9 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the LORD; even that man shall be cut off from among his people.
10 ¶ And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
It is forbidden to eat blood before the Law;
Genesis 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Under the Law here, and even after the Law, under the doctrines of grace;
Acts 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Latest Reading
On the German Art of War, Truppenfuhrung, by Bruce Condell and David T. Zabecki, Lynne Rienner Publishers, 2001. This book is a fascinating look at how the German Army of WWII practiced war. It defies the popular description in movies where the German soldier could not function independently of direct orders from above. On the contrary the German officer was to tell the highly trained soldiers what to do but rarely how to do it. Much was left up to their resourcefulness. This manual helps explain why American troops in combat against the Germans had a 50% higher casualty rate than their enemy until our side adopted their methods.
Latest Reading
The Inequality of Human Races by Arthur de Gobineau, the George L. Mosse Revokable Trust, published by Howard Fertig, Inc. 1999, originally written in 1854. This book has been given a bad rap by people who claim that it has been used by racists to justify their arrogance and hypocrisy. Well, if that is so I don't see how. Although the author is a man of his times at the height of colonial exploitation and prejudice and although he does give preeminence to the so called "white" race, he admits there is no real "white race". His main premise which I found interesting was that cultures aren't equal.
He also talks about civilizations failing because they are inheritited by different racial groups than that which founded them. To give you an analogy and comparison, the United States of Madison, Jefferson, and Henry was doomed to fail as it was inspired by an Anglo-Saxon Protestant ethnicity which then became mixed with a Celtic Southern European Roman Catholic ethnicity and a whole different set of ethics and standards. When slavery was abolished and blacks were eventually enfranchised another ethnicity was included in the mix. In the past century a great mix of Asian ethnicity was added. America could not be what it was because it isn't that anymore and has been inherited by others. So, that's my take on it using de Gobineau's theories.
All in all, its pretty interesting stuff but if you tried to use it to prove racial superiority you would have to define in what way? Superior artistic ability? The author says that only a mixture of white and black can produce that. Anyway, this book gives a pretty clear view of 19th century man's view of race. It's not our view, but we are different today.

Leviticus, chapter 16
1 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died;
2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.
3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.
4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.
5 ¶ And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.
6 And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.
7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD’S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.
10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
Here is the “scapegoat” from which we get our term for someone chosen to receive the blame of others in an organization. A person who is picked out in a group to take the punishment for the group’s sins, even when he personally may not be guilty of those sins, is called a scapegoat.
11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:
Notice that Aaron is making an atonement, not only for himself, but for his family, his house.
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:
Revelation 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
Revelation 8:4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:
14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.

Psalm 4:5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.

22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
Bearing their iniquities to a land not inhabited. Certainly, Christ did take our sins to a place we can not go.
23 And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there:
24 And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering, and the burnt offering of the people, and make an atonement for himself, and for the people.
There sure is a lot of washing going on and the world in the west, at least, did not see so much body washing until late in the 20th century.
25 And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the altar.
26 And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.
27 And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.
28 And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.
29 ¶ And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:
30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.
31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.
Notice this type of Sabbath, which is not the seventh day of the week. There are different Sabbaths in the Bible that are not the seventh day. This is important to note when considering the day Christ was crucified.
32 And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest’s office in his father’s stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments:
33 And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation.
34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.

I am not sure about this but have read commentators that refer to this as the “nocturnal emission” which males can sometimes have. Others say this refers to a wound that seeps pus or fluid. An “issue” though would tend to be of the first sort, by comparing scripture with scripture, having to do with seminal fluid.
Notice this vulgar expression in prophecy;
Ezekiel 23:20 For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.
3 And this shall be his uncleanness in his issue: whether his flesh run with his issue, or his flesh be stopped from his issue, it is his uncleanness.
4 Every bed, whereon he lieth that hath the issue, is unclean: and every thing, whereon he sitteth, shall be unclean.
5 And whosoever toucheth his bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
6 And he that sitteth on any thing whereon he sat that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
7 And he that toucheth the flesh of him that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
8 And if he that hath the issue spit upon him that is clean; then he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
9 And what saddle soever he rideth upon that hath the issue shall be unclean.

14 And on the eighth day he shall take to him two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, and come before the LORD unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and give them unto the priest:
15 And the priest shall offer them, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD for his issue.
However, from reading the rest of this passage and from what follows one can see clearly that this issue must refer to a wound of some sort. Notice at how clear the next passage makes this.
16 And if any man’s seed of copulation go out from him, then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be unclean until the even.
This is pretty clear.
17 And every garment, and every skin, whereon is the seed of copulation, shall be washed with water, and be unclean until the even.
18 The woman also with whom man shall lie with seed of copulation, they shall both bathe themselves in water, and be unclean until the even.
This calls for cleanliness after sex to prevent disease.
19 ¶ And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.
20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.
21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
23 And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.
24 And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.
25 And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean.
26 Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.
27 And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
28 But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean.
29 And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

This is very personal concerning a woman’s menstruation and what is to be done if her husband has sex with her during it. Consider the great wisdom of this in a day without the cleaning agents and household cleaners that we have today. They didn’t have a washer and dryer in which to wash clothing.
31 Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.

This calls for cleanliness after sex to prevent disease.

This is very personal concerning a woman’s menstruation and what is to be done if her husband has sex with her during it. Consider the great wisdom of this in a day without the cleaning agents and household cleaners that we have today. They didn’t have a washer and dryer in which to wash clothing.
31 Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.
Psalm 5:4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.
32 This is the law of him that hath an issue, and of him whose seed goeth from him, and is defiled therewith;
33 And of her that is sick of her flowers, and of him that hath an issue, of the man, and of the woman, and of him that lieth with her that is unclean.
Notice how ‘flowers’ is used here as a euphemism for menstruation.

Latest Reading
President Roosevelt and the Coming of the War 1941 by Charles A. Beard, Yale University Press, 1048. This is yet another in a line of books which show with clear references and insight that FDR was as responsible for World War II as much as Hitler or Tojo. His machinations not only made it possible but manuevered the US into it. It is despicable how the evidence has been ignored and how, when I was a child, I was taught the simple, yet false, mantra that Japan had initiated a sneak attack on us and we, without any knowledge aforehand were stunned and surprised by it. The truth is out there. This isn't conspiracy theory, but fact backed up by Congressional investigation and quotes from our own government's conclusions at the end of the war.

Leviticus, chapter 14
1 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought unto the priest:
3 And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper;
4 Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:
5 And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water:
6 As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water:
7 And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open field.
It would be interesting to understand what the purpose behind this ritual was, but only if one used the Scripture itself to find the answer rather than going to extra biblical sources. I have not understood these using Scripture although the following incident may offer a clue.
2Kings 5:10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.
8 And he that is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, and shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean: and after that he shall come into the camp, and shall tarry abroad out of his tent seven days.
9 But it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he shall shave off: and he shall wash his clothes, also he shall wash his flesh in water, and he shall be clean.
The Egyptians were known for shaving their entire bodies and for their abhorrence of lice according to Wilkinson’s book.
10 ¶ And on the eighth day he shall take two he lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish, and three tenth deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil.
11 And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man that is to be made clean, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:
12 And the priest shall take one he lamb, and offer him for a trespass offering, and the log of oil, and wave them for a wave offering before the LORD:

I am only thinking of comparing Scripture to Scripture for the understanding. There are a great many Jewish and Christian commentaries that approach this from outside sources.

God gives alternatives to everything. For instance, there is an alternative to fornication, it is having faithful, sexual relations that are not incontinent (most married couples main problem) with your wife. There is an alternative to being a thief, and that is to work hard and to save money for the future time when you are unable to work. There is an alternative to gossip and that is to edify and build up. Just so, there is an alternative to the first type of cleansing mentioned for leprosy.

In your church body, the house of God, if there is something that causes a blemish, Christ will remove it, but if it continues to come back Christ will remove your church. Read the second and third chapters of Revelation concerning how He treats the churches.

3 And the priest shall look on the plague in the skin of the flesh: and when the hair in the plague is turned white, and the plague in sight be deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is a plague of leprosy: and the priest shall look on him, and pronounce him unclean.
I think, and I may be incorrect, but I believe that the word, leprosy, here is used to describe a whole array of possibly infectious skin diseases. The word, plague, is obviously used as synonym for disease and is not the infamous Bubonic or Black Plague that we know about.
4 If the bright spot be white in the skin of his flesh, and in sight be not deeper than the skin, and the hair thereof be not turned white; then the priest shall shut up him that hath the plague seven days:
5 And the priest shall look on him the seventh day: and, behold, if the plague in his sight be at a stay, and the plague spread not in the skin; then the priest shall shut him up seven days more:

Unless someone who is an expert on what WE call leprosy or Hansen’s Disease can correct me, and just like the word, fowl, covers the bat in scripture, can we agree that the word, leprosy, is a much more general statement of disease than our modern term? God defined certain things first, then we made up our own classification, and then rewrote that classification back into God’s word, at least in our mind. Just as we are confounded that God does not go by Carole Linnaeus’ classification scheme of living things we are miffed at God’s classification of disease.
I think the problem lies more with us than with God. These rules are designed to protect the group from disease and probably have a deeper spiritual meaning than I am capable of seeing.
29 If a man or woman have a plague upon the head or the beard;

A criminal record obtained in youth follows you around all your life, no matter what the charge was, if it was a felony. So, there are parallels in this teaching on leprosy with certain social aspects of modern living. Bankruptcy and divorce as well as homosexuality, living together without being married, and the condition of being a bastard child were once a matter of social leprosy but since everyone has decided that these things are right and good or okay there is no more stigma attached to them.
47 ¶ The garment also that the plague of leprosy is in, whether it be a woollen garment, or a linen garment;
48 Whether it be in the warp, or woof; of linen, or of woollen; whether in a skin, or in any thing made of skin;
49 And if the plague be greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in any thing of skin; it is a plague of leprosy, and shall be shewed unto the priest:
